COMMERCIAL DIVING COURSE CONDUCTED BY
INDIAN NAVY RECOGNISED BY
INTERNATIONAL MARINE CONTRACTOR'S ASSOCIATION (IMCA)


Applications are invited for Commercial Diving Course being conducted at Diving School, Kochi commencing 31 Jan 2011. The duration of the course will be of ten weeks prior to which one week of screening will be conducted. The course will be conducted on the lines of HSE (Health And Safety Executives, UK) Part I qualification and the course is termed as IDS (Indian Diving Standard) -1. Individuals qualifying the course will be certified to work up to a depth of 50 meters using air diving equipment. The IDS-1 course has been recognised by International Marine Contractor's Association (IMCA), an International Consultancy Agency on all offshore marine and diving activities.

Eligibility Conditions: Male Indian Citizens above 18 years and less than 28 years of age as on 01 Jan 2011.
Educational Qualification: (a) Candidates passing in 12 class examination of Central / State Education Board and securing 50% or more marks in Matriculation shall be eligible. (b) Candidates must be fluent in Hindi and in English.

Medical Standards: The applicants are required to attach a Medical Certificate from a registered Medical Practitioner certifying that the applicant is medically fit to undertake strenuous physical activities and is not suffering from the under mentioned disorders:
Inability to clear the ears via Eustachian Tubes, (b) Perforated Ear Drum, Chronic Otitis Media, (c) Chronic Sinusitis, Nasal obstruction, (d) Obesity-should not be obese, (e) Dental caries, loss of Incisor, Artificial Dentures, (f) Any Chronic Lung Disease, past or present and history of Thoracic Surgery, (g) Any functional or Organic Cardiovascular Disease, essential Hypertension, Diabetes, (h) Proven Peptic Ulcer, Chronic Diarrhoea, history of extensive Abdominal Surgery, evidence of Hernia or Tendency Thereto, Varicose Veins or Haemorrhoids unless already successfully treated, (j) Chronic or recurrent disease of Genitor Urinary System, (k) Past history of Fits, Psychiatric Illness, repeated Headaches, Blackouts, severe Concussion or Cranial Surgery. (I) Addiction to Alcohol & Drugs, (m) Stammering, (n) Skeletal or Arthritic Disability, (p) Chronic Skin Condition, (q) STD and AIDS.

On completion of Screening the selected candidates will be subjected to comprehensive Medical Examination at Naval Hospital, Kochi.

Physical Standards: Candidate should be a good swimmer with good Physical Stamina. Vacancies: 20 (Twenty)

Mode Of Selection: (a) Vetting of Application: The application received from the candidates will be vetted at Headquarters, Southern Naval Command, Kochi and the call up letters will be sent to short listed candidates (after verification of all documents from the respective education boards), who will be requested to report to Diving School, Kochi for Aptitude Test, Screening and Training. The preference of selection of the candidates in order of priority will be as follows: - (i) Percentage of marks obtained in 12th class examination of Central/ State Board, (ii) Age Factor (younger candidates will be given preference and due weight age will be given for the same).

Aptitude Test & Screening: Candidates will be required to qualify aptitude test for diving and physical fitness. This test is to assess the candidate’s suitability for diving. The candidates who qualify the aptitude test will undergo screening comprising of Entry level Knowledge test, waterborne activity, Diving Aptitude and Physical Proficiency Test in swimming and physical fitness. Incompletion of Screening, twenty candidates will be selected to undergo the course. If the number of remaining candidates are more than the required vacancies, to select the best twenty, a merit list will be prepared based on the performance in above tests. The decision of OIC Diving School, Kochi would be final and binding during selection. Medically Fit candidates are advised to build up swimming standards by long distance swimming and physical fitness by long distance jogging prior to reporting for the course. Candidates are cautioned not to undertake unaided/ breath hold diving for the purpose of preparing for the course.

Cost of Training: The cost of training will be borne by the individual candidate as follows:-

Withdrawal from the Course: Candidates will be withdrawn from the course in the event of cases of fraudulence or due to unsatisfactory progress. Candidates withdrawn for unsatisfactory progress will be refunded part of the training charges as shown at para 9(b) calculated on pro rata basis.
Mode of Payment: All applicants will be required to forward a Crossed Demand Draft of Rs. 9,600/- (Rupees Nine thousand six hundred only) as Administrative and Screening charge along with the application. The draft to be in favour of Officer-in-Charge, Diving School, Kochi drawn on any bank payable at Kochi. Short listed applicants will be intimated by a letter, and these applicants will be required to deposit an additional Demand Draft of Rs. 2,97,730/- (Rupees Two Lakhs, Ninety seven thousand Seven hundred and thirty only) in favour of the authority as mentioned above. Non selected applicants will be refunded by post an amount of Rs. 9,600/- (Rupees Nine thousand six hundred only) after deducting the actual Postal and Bank Charges.

Boarding and Lodging: The candidates are required to make their own boarding and lodging arrangements. However, arrangements can be made by Officer-ln-Charge, Diving School, Kochi for their stay outside Naval Base, which is likely to cost about Rs. 3,000/-(Rupees three thousand only) per month.
Other Requirements: The candidates called for undergoing the aptitude test and screening will be required to give an 'UNDERTAKING’ on the prescribed format forwarded along with the call up letter. The salient aspects of this undertaking are as follows: -

No compensation claim will be made by the candidate or his next of kin/heirs or any individual in respect of any loss, damage or Injury sustained during the course or occurring on completion of the course.
The candidate is willing to abide by the rules, regulations and discipline as required for the course in the Naval Area.

Candidate is willing to bear the cost of any damage/ loss of equipment due to negligence during the course. Conversion Course: Personnel already completed IDS l/lll course and desirous of converting to IDS I IMCA will be required to undergo conversion courses at Diving School. These personnel will be conjoined with this course on payment as indicated by Diving School, Kochi.

How to Apply: Application should be written by the candidate in their own handwriting as per the given format and is to reach Officer-in-Charge, Diving School, INS Venduruthy, Naval Base, Kochi-682004 by registered post on or before 03 Dec 2010 Superscripted with-the words "COMMERCIAL DIVING COURSE".
IMPORTANT: (a) Application not accompanied by copies of certificates in proof of Age, Education Qualification, Medical Certificate, Two Passport Size Photographs and Crossed Demand Draft will be arily rejected, (b) One Self addressed Envelope (12 x 27 cms) be forwarded along with the application, (c) The name and address of the applicant is to be written on the back of the Demand Draft enclosed with the application, (d) The terms and conditions given in this Advertisement are subject to change and should, therefore be treated as guidelines only, (e) Placement prospects on successful completion of the course will not be the responsibility of the Indian Navy.

Certification: On completion of the course, the successful candidates will be awarded certificate duly certified by the Indian Navy on behalf on MOD/GOI and IMCA.
